If you notice white spots on your nails, don’t ignore that and make sure you visit your doctor as soon as possible. These white spots are known as the leukonchia, which is an issue for many people and it is harmless. They usually appear as a result from small injuries to the base of the nail. The white spots are caused because of the air bubbles in the nail and in some cases they can appear due to warts, fungus, psoriasis, eczema, or as a symptom of sarcodosis. It is a disease that affects the lungs, skin and many other organs. Nail beds can get injured with a pinch or strike, frequent manicures and pedicures, use of gel or acrylic nails, etc.

Plummer nail is a condition that means hyperthyroidism. Although it is often seen as white spots, you can also notice horizontal lines or stripes on your nails. It can be a sign of malaria, leprosy, Hodgkin’s disease or cardiac arrest.
